A review of 2013 uncovered one of the most
important aspects of Scope and that is longevity. PCI cards are well
proven in this respect with many cards over a decade old still in
use. But even with the XITE users are impressed with
durability, with many of them being used in a live environment. A musical highlight for me in 2013 was Group
of Light's 'Dubstar from Heaven' track and 'making of' video, both
fine examples of what could be achieved using Scope and reminding
one that there is a twilight world between studio and live.
Combining semi-automation with live mixing and performing is a big
trend in electronic dance music and a niche that Scope handles
admirably.
Back to the past (1985) and our Time Machine series brings us an interview with Karlheinz Stockhausen and demos of the Oberheim Matrix, Yamaha QX7, Yamaha CX5M (which I used to own) and some commentary from NAMM New Orleans, a place better known for it's Jazz than electronic music. Simplicity often wins when trying to win the workflow battle, so we take a look at the S|C Compressor and Gate, which (for convenience) can be used separately or both together in a single combo device. DSP developer John Amolochitis gives us some great illustrated XITE DSP placement and phase tips and tricks including a clever sub-mixing technique. And dNa comes to the party for those that wish to sub mix natively with their Summer of 82 summing mixer. Using Summer of 82 I was able to streamline my workflow using Reason. Both Summer of 82 and Reason feature in separate articles with some crossover content in the Reason article showing how to set up 8 Reason busses routed to the new dNa Summer. This time last year, BC Modular débuted a host of new modules for the Scope Modular IV. We take a look with founder Sharc at the latest developments and how the project has become a community development with more developers joining in. |
